Were not our hearts burning?

Beyond our counting are the ways
That God's love is learned.
Yet nothing stronger than the stranger
Who makes our hearts burn.
Were not our hearts burning
When the Lord walked with us?
Are not our lives yearning
To be filled by God's love?
When we invited, when we welcomed,
When he broke the bread…
Then our senses, and hearts opened
To the things he had said.
In our welcome
Is love's sharing
Christ's touch is known
Open hearts invite the Spirit
So God, to us, through us is shown
Were not our hearts burning
When the Lord walked with us?
Are not our lives yearning
To be filled by God's love?
Beyond our counting are the ways
That God's love is learned.
Yet nothing stronger than the stranger
Who makes our hearts burn.
Were not our hearts burning?
Are not our lives yearning?
Were not our hearts burning?
