Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction....The chain reaction of evil -- hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars -- must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.

I Don't Think So
© 2003 Matt Henry
I don't know much about all that's going on,
But in my steady heart, and shaky voice, I hear this song.
I don't like to raise my voice,
Used to think it was a choice,
Now I don't think so.
There's no holy insight to be found in these words,
Just some thoughts I wake up to, about the obvious, the absurd.
To me they seem pretty clear,
Wish they were my ideas,
But I don't think so.
As a child I heard of war, like an echo from the past,
And I had hoped it would fade away and disappear at last.
And maybe peace will come
At the barrel of a gun,
But I don't think so.
Seems clear, but I'm naïve, I'm full of ideals,
Still it feels like the truth, better than getting real.
And maybe peace will come
If we take away their bombs
But I don't think so.
If I see the people other than me as people to defeat,
It's 'cos since my first day of school, I've been taught to compete.
And maybe it means peace
If bombs and bullets cease,
But I don't think so.
I sort of fear that fear and love don't begin far apart,
I kind of love that love and fear both take hold in my heart.
And fear is hard to chill,
Love is harder still,
Don't you think so?
