Animal Farm
So in theory at least, this endeavour (which we spell with a ‘u’ down here, because we speak real English) is not an animal farm. But I thought I’d give you a quick accounting of the fauna (so far) right here on our land:
Cows from the neighbour (note that ‘u’ again) grazing on our fields, as they are welcome to do: about 30.
Cows eating our flowers outside the window because of a hole in a fence somewhere: 1 (you should’ve seen me coax her back to her rightful place!)
Compost-pile-dwelling turkeys: 2
Chickens: 11 (they live here, 1 rooster and his harem)
Carpet snakes in the carport, right above our car: 1
Frogs in the dam: billions
Mosquitoes: apparently way more than the frogs can eat
Foxes lurking in the bush stalking our chickens: 1
Land mullets (a two foot long lizard thing): 1
Hairy hand-sized spiders wrestling each other: 2
Goldfish in the pond: 1
Big lizards that hang out by the pond but are too chicken to get in: 1 (his name is Izzie)
Dogs: 1 (Jedda, the best dog)
Flying foxes eating our wild figs: 2
Ducks who are terrified of 17-month old girls: 1 flock
Bats: hard to count
Birds: enough to make me realise why some people want to know what they all are.
But Here’s the thing:
Wombats: 0
Koalas: 0
Kangaroos: 0 (unless you count roadkill, but that’s not on our land)
Emus: maybe 1 unconfirmed sighting a little ways up the road
Wallabies: 0
I’ll try to get a picture of the carport Carpet snake. I call him Carl. I’m not going back to the place where the spiders were, maybe ever, so don’t hold your breath for pictures of them. We do have some funky looking chickens, though, so maybe I’ll do a little portfolio of chickens… or maybe I should find a job soon…
Peace, all!
Matt

Ewwww. Hand-sized hairy spiders! I'm never coming to visit you guys now.
I think you should put a picture of your house, maybe as a before shot? But other than that good job with the pictures, keep them coming.
Love and Peace, Rebecca
Wild life where I am:
Polar bears today: 5
Ptarmigans: a whole bunch
Arctic Hares: 2
Funny looking tundra buggies: a whole bunch
Red fox outside our door that I missed seeing: 1
Aurora Borealis: 1
I'm glad I checked this out tonight...I've missed all new posts since Shana and Jess arrived until tonight! I'm much more able to believe you're really there! Thanks!
Love you all!
Diane
wow...that's quite an impressive list of animals!! i am a little disappointed, though, that you haven't found any bobcats on the prowl. ;)
"wildlife" of my 1st floor dorm room/bathroom/surrounding hallway:
nowhere-near-hand-sized-but-still-hairy-and-larger-than-most-spiders-I've-seen spider: one. originally in the bathroom, he moved into my room when I went home for the weekend.
annoying bugs that fly in from the front door and die in the hall outside my room every night: too many to count.
cocroach in my shower: one too many.
aaand, that's about it. you know I kind of hate Cleveland.
