And he cried

© 1996 Matt Henry

In the manger he lay
Mary's baby alseep in the hay
'Neath a starlit sky
In the love of God:
A baby cried
And he cried
Jesus cried.

In the temple, alone
His parents searching to bring him home
For three days they searched
He knew how much they cared:
A young boy smiled
And he smiled
Jesus smiled.

Standing at his friend's grave
Being told he was too late to save.
Cut by the death of this man
Causing so much pain:
A dear friend wept
And he wept
Jesus wept.

On the road with his friends
They began a journey that has no end
They shared their stories and songs
The strnage things they'd known:
A young man laughed
And he laughed
Jesus laughed.

At the place of the skull
'Neath a clear sky, growing dull
They pierced his feet and hands
Nailed him to the air:
A young man cried
And he cried
Jesus cried.
